The International Master's course is equivalent to a Pre-Master's Graduate Diploma (which covers the subjects taught within the Postgraduate Diploma in Actuarial Science), followed by the MSc in Applied Actuarial Science. It is aimed at international students with a good first degree (first or upper second class degree) in mathematics, statistics or economics (although other subjects with a high mathematical content are acceptable), who would like to gain exemptions from subjects in the Core Technical, Core Applications and Specialist Technical Stages of the UK Actuarial Profession's examinations.
The International Masters programme is a combination of a Graduate Diploma in Actuarial Science (GDip) and the MSc in Applied Actuarial Science with an overall programme length of 24 months. The GDip component is undertaken first. The International Masters format is only available on a full time basis. The GDip and MSc components are treated as separate stages for the purpose of the credit framework.
Stage 1: See the Graduate Diploma in Actuarial Science programme specification below for details.
Stage 2: Students follow the MSc Actuarial Science programme.
Progression from Stage 1 to Stage 2: Progression is conditional upon 120 credits being obtained for Stage 1 with at least 60 credits at H level or above and the achievement of an overall average mark of at least 55% for the Stage. Students who achieve 120 credits with at least 60 credits at H level for Stage 1 but who do not meet the progression requirements for Stage 2 are eligible got the award of the Graduate Diploma.
The MSc degree classification is based solely on the marks achieved for Stage 2.
