If you complete the programme successfully, you will be eligible to apply for Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) + 3 PhD studentship funding, subject to residence requirements being met.
The programme draws students from across the world, who participate online through our virtual learning environment (Moodle) and our real-time online classrooms (powered by Elluminate). Full tuition, including regular comments on your contributions, detailed feedback on group and individual work, online lectures and revision sessions are provided online.
You may register for the programme in September or January. You may also take any of the taught courses (see below in 'Contents') on a stand-alone basis.

Programme of study
The programme consists of six modules, plus a dissertation of 15,000 words.

The dissertation
The dissertation follows the same procedures and standards as dissertations in the face-to-face MRes. A member of academic staff at the IOE will provide supervision via email, Skype, telephone or our online classroom.
Length of programme
You can complete the online MRes programme in a minimum of two years and a maximum of five years' part-time study.
Assessment
All of the taught courses other than Writing and Presenting Educational Research are assessed through end-of-year written examinations held in a centre local to you, usually in early June. Some courses will also be assessed through coursework, usually consisting of a written essay.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

The normal minimum requirement for entry to this programme is a second-class honours degree from a UK university, or an overseas degree that we judge to be of an equivalent standard. We may also consider appliancts with a professional or other qualification gained by written examination and judged by the IOE to be the equivalent of a second-class honours degree.
You may also be eligible if you have alternative qualifications gained by written examination; in such cases, we may ask you to take a qualifying examination.
You should preferably have at least two years' professional experience relevant to MRes degree studies.
Proficiency in English requirements
For all masters programmes, if your first language is not English, the Institute will need proof of your proficiency in English (IELTS 7.0 - 6.0 writing, 6.5 reading; TOEFL 650 - paper, 280 - computer, 114 - internet; or Cambridge Certificate in the Proficiency of English Grade A or B).
