This Master’s aims to develop expertise on spatial management and sustainable development on regional and local levels (cities, rural areas, industrial districts, etc.) as well as to support policies that integrate economic, environmental, international, intercultural, territorial and context-driven dimensions. To this end, the programme focuses on society and companies embedded in systems of governance and stakeholder participation. The European and non-European students study together at the Università degli Studi di Padova (Italy, 30 ECTS) in the first semester.
In the second semester, they move to KU Leuven (Belgium, 30 ECTS). The following year, the programme continues at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon – Sorbonne (France, 30 ECTS) in the third semester and for the last semester, dedicated to an internship and the Master’s thesis (30 ECTS), students choose between the three aforementioned universities and the Universidade Catolica Don Bosco in Brazil.
Extensive experience and international collaboration ensure a multidisciplinary approach that opens students’ perspectives to the sustainability of territorial use and organisation, while also confronting them with various policy tools and management strategies in divergent territorial contexts.
Job opportunities for alumni may be found in all sectors where sustainable development actions should be implemented, in particular at territorial organisations responsible for the creation of sustainable territories (territorial communities, enterprises, non-state actors and civil society organisations, local governments), the central government and international organisations.
Potential posts are: environmental adviser; sustainable development manager in local communities, public administrations, enterprises, civil society organisations & local governments; representative within local public institutions, national and international institutions, enterprises, trade unions & professional bodies.
The programme offers different teaching formats such as lectures, practicals and seminars, field trips and project work in team in order to promote knowledge and skills as well as stimulate abstract and operational insight and competences in sustainable development.
