Location of University of Bologna

The 2nd cycle degree programme in Planning and management of agro-territorial, forest and landscape aims to train professionals specialising in the sustainable management of the agricultural and forestry areas, in economic-production terms, and concerning ecological, environmental, landscape and design aspects. The programme will therefore cover topics relating to the monitored use of agricultural and forestry resources, the promotion of the landscape as a tourist attraction, biomass treatment and recycling for energy, requalification of the agri-tourism system to promote the

agricultural, forestry and zootechnical economy, water and land reclamation in areas under serious anthropic pressure.

Extra-curricular activities
Seminars are organised throughout the year at the Faculty focusing in particular on the quality of soil and water; speakers include experts and managers from Institutions and bodies that operate in the territory (for example: Land reclamation consortia, Mountain Area Communities, Provincial Administrations etc…).

International mobility
Exchange programmes are available thanks to arrangements with other Universities as part of the Erasmus programme and other agreements. Students can also choose to carry out part of the thesis or internship abroad.

Final examination
The final examination of the 2nd cycle degree programme involves the production and presentation of a dissertation on a scientific subject with strong experimental significance.

Requirements

In order to attend a second-level degree course in "Progettazione e gestione degli ecosistemi agro-territoriali, forestali e del paesaggio" (Planning and management of agricultural-land, forest and landscape ecosystems) profitably it is necessary to have acquired knowledge in relation to the following:

* basic scientific disciplines in the fields of applied technology and economics regarding the management of rural and forest environments;
* main environmental and pedoclimatic characteristics for the purpose of better exploiting agrosilvopastoral systems while protecting the landscape;
* fundamental principles governing reclamation and irrigation plans for rural environments and green areas and hydraulic and agroforestry projects;
* basic notions regarding forest and reforestation initiatives and agrosilvopastoral reorganization for the purpose of achieving optimal management of mountain areas, both from an economic and ecological point of view;
* fundamental principles enabling an evaluation of soil and water quality with the aim of conserving and protecting them so as to assure a sustainable use of resources;
* main soil characteristics, with the aim of ensuring rational use for purposes also not strictly related to agroforestry;
* basic notions regarding land planning and assessment of environmental impact;
* main provisions of environmental laws.

Admission to a second-level degree course is subject to the following requirements:

1. Completion of a degree in one of the following classes, or possession of another academic qualification earned abroad and recognised as suitable: Ministry of Education, University and Research decree no. 270: L-21 Land, Town, Landscape and Environmental Planning Sciences; L-32 Environment and Nature Sciences and Technologies.

As per Ministry Decree no. 509/99: L 7 Town-planning and planning sciences; L 20 Agri-food and forestry sciences and technologies; L 27 Environment and nature sciences and technologies.

Previous 4-year university system: - Agricultural sciences, Agricultural sciences and technologies, Forestry sciences, Forestry and environmental sciences (Ministry Decree 143/93); - Environmental sciences (Ministry Decree 256/96); - Tropical and subtropical agricultural sciences (Ministry decree 262/96).

2. Completion of a degree other than the ones specified above with the acquisition, for each of the following scientific/subject areas, of a minimum number of ECTS academic credits as indicated below:

In the case of students who do not possess the required degree and/or credits as specified above, admission to a second-level degree course is subject to a preliminary assessment by a Commission which will ascertain, by means of an interview, whether the student possesses the required knowledge and competencies.

Interviews will be held on the following dates:

If the Commission judges the graduate's level of knowledge and competencies to be satisfactory, the student will be admitted to a test to assess the adequacy of his or her personal academic preparation as per the following paragraphs.

A negative outcome of the test/interview will preclude admission to a second-level degree course.

Assessment of personal academic preparation

Admission to a second-level degree course is subject not only to the fulfilment of the pre-established curricular requirements but also to passing a test proving the adequacy of personal academic preparation, which will take place by means of an individual interview.

Students who were awarded a degree with a minimum final mark of 92/110 will automatically be considered to have sufficient academic preparation.

The test consists in an interview with a commission designated by the Consiglio di Corso di Laurea (Degree Course Board).

Students must sign up for the test by sending an e-mail to the faculty teaching office (presidenza.agraria@unibo.it) with the subject: "prova di verifica" and specifying name, surname, the course they wish to enrol in and the date of the interview in which they intend to participate. The e-mail must be sent at least two days before the date of the interview.

A negative outcome of the test/interview will preclude admission to a second-level degree course.
