The 2nd cycle degree programme in Mechanical Engineering aims to provide students with a solid cultural and professional background to operate in highly qualified areas of the mechanical engineering field.

2nd cycle graduates in Mechanical Engineering have a high level of cultural and professional understanding of the specific subjects in this class, in particular concerning the innovative design of components, machines, systems, products and processes in functional, construction, energy and economic terms.

The 2nd cycle degree programme in Mechanical Engineering aims specifically to train professional figures able to occupy positions of responsibility in design, management, coordination and development of industrial and/or research activities in public and private boards and companies, as well as the highly professional activities within the freelance field.

The computing and experimental equipment available for use in the university laboratories, which is being further enhanced, allow for the study of fields of application. Work placements may also be carried out in collaboration with public and private bodies and companies operating in the territory.

Among others, the professional figures described below (tables A and B) may be developed.

The Mechanical Engineering study programme produces graduates with a solid and flexible background based on the in-depth technical and scientific knowledge gained during the curriculum, which they can successfully put to use in the world of work or continue to develop by continuing studies to 2nd cycle Master's Degree level or PhD programmes in Mechanical Engineering and similar industrial disciplines.

Having passed the state examination, in compliance with the applicable regulations, graduates in mechanical engineering may exercise the private profession (feasibility studies, design, technical arbitration, technical expert for parties and on behalf of the courts, etc.), also dealing with complex issues which require great skill.

In the table given in the Degree Programme System, the wide range of course units offered to gain CFU credits in the various programme types allow students the possibility to follow different curricula and make guided choices that fully satisfy the requirements of the degree programme system.

Requirements

Admission to the 2nd cycle Mechanical Engineering degree programme is subject to the possession of a degree from a three-year degree certificate and the acquisition of at least 180 CFU, or other suitable qualification obtained abroad.

A) CURRICULAR REQUIREMENTS

Admission to the 2nd cycle degree programme is subject to the possession of the following curricular requirements:

1. 1st cycle degree (under DM 270/04 or DM 509/99) in the Industrial Engineering, Information Engineering or Civil and Environmental Engineering classes from any Italian university or an equivalent qualification obtained abroad, providing it is recognised by the Degree Programme Board, or a three-year university diploma or five-year degree under the previous degree programme system.
2. The following minimum number of CFU among the scientific-disciplinary fields listed:
• at least 42 CFU from the following SSD: INF/01,ING-INF/05, MAT/02, MAT/03, MAT/05, MAT/06, MAT/07, MAT/08, MAT/09, SECS/09, CHIM/03, CHIM/07, FIS/01, FIS/02
• at least 18 CFU from the following SSD: ING-IND/16, ING-IND/17, ING-IND/35, ING-IND/08, ING-IND/12, ING-IND/13, ING-IND/14, ING-IND/15, ING-IND/16, ING-IND/17, ICAR/08, ING-IND/19, ING-IND/22, ING-IND/25, ING-IND/28, ING-IND/31, ING-IND/33

If no degree certificate and/or above-mentioned credits have been obtained, the admission to a 2nd Cycle Degree Programme is subject to a preliminary assessment by a Commission to ascertain the required skills and competencies through the assessment of the candidates' curriculum and possibly an interview.
The Commission, appointed by the Degree Programme Board, will establish a calendar for the interviews, which will be published on the Faculty Portal.
If the Commission considers the level of the student's knowledge and skills to be satisfactory, the student will be required to sit a test to verify the level of personal knowledge as described below.

B) REQUIREMENTS CONCERNING PERSONAL ACADEMIC PREPARATION

Admission to the 2nd cycle degree programme is subject to the possession of the described curricular requirements and to the passing of a test to verify the students' personal academic preparation through the assessment of the candidates' curriculum by a Commission.

If the candidates' level of knowledge and preparation is considered by the Commission to be insufficient, the application will be rejected.
