The degree Master of Theology (MTh) at the Faculty of Theology enables graduates to work as a theological experts and developers or to qualify for postgraduate studies in Theology. Studies in the degree programme emphasise the ability to utilise scientific knowledge and methods as well as good communication and language skills.
Many theologians find employment within research institutions and administrative and journalistic assignments at governmental or non-governmental institutions requiring keen understanding of the impact of the religious cultures in today’s society. Please note that the degree programme does not qualify the graduates to work as a pastor in Evangelic-Lutheran Church in Finland.
The Faculty of Theology has received several awards for the quality of teaching and development and it is hosting Finnish Centre of Excellence in Philosophical Psychology, Morality and Politics from 2008 to 2013. The Faculty of Theology is a non-denominational academic community.
The Master’s degree programme consists of 120 ECTS-compatible credits. The content of the degree programme is classified according to the level and type of each study module.
* International students choosing the A2 studies option must complete 70 ECTS-compatible credits of compulsory studies (advanced studies and the Master’s thesis) and 50 ECTS-compatible credits of elective studies (advanced, intermediate, minor-subject, applied and Finnish or Swedish studies).
* The objective of advanced studies is that students learn to contribute to independent and critical scientific knowledge. Thus advanced studies mostly consist of writing the Master’s thesis (usually 60–100 pages).
* Intermediate studies provide an opportunity to acquire a deeper insight into the five theological disciplines taught in the Faculty.
* Applied studies are not compulsory for international degree students.
* Students can complete minor-subject studies in another faculty or university.
* Students can include Finnish or Swedish language studies up to a maximum of 25 credits

TOEFL language test scores are accepted only if they are received directly from the organisation that administers the test. The University Admissions Finland can also access your language scores (TOEFL, IELTS, and CAE/CPE) online, if given the permission by the testee to do so.
Other acceptable language test scores (IELTS, CAE/CPE, and the National Certificate of Language Proficiency, the University of Helsinki Language Services' language test) can be submitted by the applicants as photocopies of the original score slip, because these test scores are not sent directly to the University Admissions Finland. UAF will check the validity of all language scores. The indication of language skills has a very important role in the student selections: in the application period 2008, the main reason for rejecting an application was the inadequate or missing language test score.
The code you should give when you register for TOEFL is 3138.

Finnish Universities are accredited by the law. Universities are responsible for the quality and continuous development of their education and other operations.
