This programme aims to form a professional with specialized skills in architecture and town planning, urban landscape planning, structural and environmental planning, architectural restoration, conservation and enhancement of the architectural heritage and interior architecture and interior design.
The programme is equally divided between theory and practical course units.
At the end of the first cycle (1st and 2nd years ) students must demonstrate, at assessment, a sound foundation in:
* Logic of architecture;
* Architectural construction;
* History of the essential elements of the architectural space;
* As well as the fundamental techniques of visual representation in architecture (traditional and computer-aided);
* Foundation for the technical management of a design.
The second cycle (3rd and 4th years) is devoted to scientific, technological and professional learning in the field of architectonic and urban planning, architectural construction and architectonic restoration.
The third cycle (5th year) is devoted to further study of themes and disciplines in studios, the conclusion of the educational agenda and the preparation of a final thesis.
The programme of the 2nd cycle degree in Architecture begins by providing a sound foundation in the subjects of mathematics, physics and technology, history and methods of representation in architecture and a solid basis in architectural design.
The aim as regards the teaching of mathematics, physics and technology is to provide knowledge of methodologies and gain experience of sciences such as to enable students to comprehend the technical problems that arise during the design and planning of a building. In the study of the history of architecture, the knowledge acquired will enable the student to recognize and critically evaluate a work of architecture considered in relation to proportions, its context, and the materials and techniques used. In regard to methods of representation in architecture and interior spaces, the programme aims to provide knowledge of architecture that will enable students to prepare a design and present it.
The programme advances knowledge in all these fundamental areas by providing both specific single-subject courses and studio courses that combine the skills for design proposals in the different sectors of architectural and urban design, of town planning, restoration and structural design, while continuously taking into account the economic and legislative constraints that are connected to each stage of design. The design studios present throughout the syllabus serve not only to assess the level of knowledge and understanding achieved but also to provide the ideal teaching medium for the skills involved in a design, by promoting the ability to combine a variety of skills and giving access to specialized skills necessary for the complex process of architectural design. This approach is in line with the educational agenda at the basis of the courses in most European countries. The ultimate goal is, therefore, to produce a professional who will be responsible for all formal, constructional, productive and normative aspects involved in transformations of the built environment, at different levels and in different contexts.

Internship
Internship: the study programme provides for a curricular internship experience lasting 175 hours (7 credits) in an establishment in agreement with the University of Bologna or in establishments within the University. The internship is an important opportunity to experience the world of work.
International mobility
Exchanges are possible through agreements with various universities as part of the Erasmus programme or other conventions. Students may also choose to complete part of the thesis and internship abroad.
Final examination
For the final examination the student must discuss a design prepared during the Final-Synthesis studio and a thesis prepared under the guidance of a supervising professor; this thesis may take the form of a design project or an experimental-theoretical dissertation.
Secondary school diploma (original copy) obtained after at least 12 years of schooling; the diploma must be translated and duly validated (EU citizens can certify the secondary school diploma personally).
