The Bristol Centre for Functional Nanomaterials (BCFN) represents more than 100 academics from 13 academic disciplines in the faculties of Science, Engineering and Medical & Veterinary Science. This rich and diverse mix ensures your training and research are truly interdisciplinary and are at the cutting edge of science.
The BCFN is based in the Centre for Nanoscience and Quantum Information – the lowest vibration Nanoscience building in the world. We offer novel and innovative postgraduate training in Nanoscience,equipping you for a career in Science, Technology or Business.
The programme includes:
• Lectures on Functional Nanomaterials covering topics such as Electrochemistry at the Nanoscale, Nano-optics, Nanoscale Forces and Nano-biomaterials
• Training in Advanced Tools for Nanoscience through innovative online modules, lectures and practical work
• Communication and Management Skills
• Two 3-month Training Projects and one 6-month Research Project working in interdisciplinary research groups. You choose your Training and Research Projects from a range of proposals.
As a student on the one-year, full-time MSc programme you will take the following units:
• Lectures on Functional Nanomaterials covering topics such as Electrochemistry at the Nanoscale, Nano-optics, Nanoscale Forces and Nano-biomaterials
• Training in Advanced Tools for Nanoscience through innovative online modules, lectures and practical work
• Communication and Management Skills

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Entry Requirements: Normally an upper second-class degree or higher in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related subject.
Language Requirements: An IELTS score of 6.0 with 5.5 in all bands. We also accept other language tests; please see our website for details.
