Location of University of Chester

This programme provides opportunities for students to engage in advanced study of the relationship between religion and public life at a number of different levels and contexts (e.g. local, national, global).

A range of different specialist modules offers perspectives on historical, cross-cultural and theological dimensions of the role of religion in society today, with special emphasis on the impact of faith on public policy, welfare, civil society and political life.

The University of Chester is one of the leading centres in research in practical and contextual theology in the UK and internationally. The University of Chester will host the Global Network for Public Theology from 2011 - 14, during which students will be exposed to some of the leading international researchers in the field of religion and public life.

Programme Structure

* Introduction to the Study of Religion and Public Policy (core module)
* Research Dissertation (core to MA)

Optional specialist modules include:

* International Perspectives in Religion and Public Policy.
* Contemporary Issues in Public Theology
* Urban Theology
* Independent Practice-Based Research Project

Assessment

The programme will use a range of approaches to assessment. Typically, students will be expected to produce an extended research paper or a portfolio of work involving literature reviews, research proposals, seminar papers or reports.

IELTS

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Candidates will normally be admitted to the programme on the basis of the following qualifications:

* minimum of an upper second class Honours degree in Theology and/or Religious Studies
* minimum of an upper second class honours degree in another relevant subject, together with evidence of certificated learning in religious studies or substantial related experience.

Evidence of a lower qualification may be acceptable if accompanied by substantial appropriate professional or voluntary experience.
