Kingston's Diploma in Management Studies (DMS) course is suitable for professionals working in all sectors of the economy, whether you are in local government or healthcare, or in private-sector companies such as retail, IT or finance. It will provide you with the skills and qualities that are essential to become an effective manager. Once you have successfully completed the diploma you can undertake a further year's study to top up your qualification to masters level.
This course is recognised by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). Successful graduates are eligible for Associate Membership of the CMI and you will have the chance to upgrade to full member status depending on your management experience.
What you will study?
After an induction programme introducing you to the Business School and the expectations and ethos of the DMS course, you will go on to study modules that cover the broader disciplines of management and some more-focused topics. You will develop your evaluation and analytical skills and focus on the application of management techniques to your job. You will gain a strategic and holistic perspective of your organisation that is critical to its success in today's competitive business environment. You will also have the opportunity to specialise by choosing certain option modules.
If you decide to top up your diploma qualification to masters level, you will undertake the Research Methods and dissertation module, which will prepare you for the production and submission of your dissertation.

Applications to the Kingston DMS are welcomed from those who are at least 21 years old and fit one of the following broad profiles:
* You have a degree plus a minimum of two years business-related work experience, or are currently engaged on a fast-track management programme.
* You have a degree plus substantial business-related work experience at a non-management level.
* You do not have a formal qualification but have substantial business-related work experience at a supervisory/management level.
If you are in any doubt as to your candidacy for the programme, or are unsure of the suitability of the course for you, you are invited to contact the course administrator for an informal conversation and guidance.
Interviews are not normally necessary but can be given in the case of those who may not meet the above requirements but have other qualities which point to their ability to successfully complete the programme.
Entry to the Management Studies MA top-up is conditional on successful completion of a Postgraduate Diploma in Management Studies (a level 7 qualification worth 120 credits), preferably to Commendation level and within the last five years. Candidates may also be invited to interview to further assess their suitability for masters level study.
International students
All non-UK applicants must meet our English language requirements. For this course it is Academic IELTS of 6.5 overall with no element below 6.0. Please make sure you read our full guidance about English language requirements, which includes details of other qualifications we'll consider.
Applicants who do not meet the English language requirements may be eligible to join our pre-sessional English language course.
Applicants from one of the recognised Majority English Speaking Countries (MESCs) do not need to meet these requirements.
