The master programme (1 year) in applied mechanics focuses on the development of analytical skills to solve complex problems within the area of mechanics. The courses given during the first semester gives a good background for advanced engineering work in industry. They also form a basis towards postgraduate studies. This means an extensive theoretical content combined with numerical methods. The theoretical part of the programme is represented by courses in dynamics and fracture mechanics.
The numerical part is characterized by linear and non-linear analyses using the finite element method. During the entire programme, both theoretical and numerical problems are taken from real problems. To finalize your degree, you will also carry out a master's dissertation project during the final semester. This is made within the field of mechanics.
The masters programe in engineering mechanics has a solid theoretical and numerical foundation. This gives the students an excellent competitively at the job market.
Apart from giving the formal requirements for PhD studies, the programe gives a good foundation for research studies in Solid Mechanics.
During your studies, lectures will be mixed with computer laboratory work. You will learn to use various computerized tools and to use various methods for structural analyses. The language used in teaching is English.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

A Bachelor degree of at least 180 higher education credits (equivalent to 180 ECTS) within the field of mechanical engineering or equivalent. A further requirement is proof of skills in English equivalent of studies at upper secondary level in Sweden, known as English course B. This is normally demonstrated by means of an internationally recognized test, e g IELTS, TOEFL or the equivalent.

Scholarship for international Master's students liable for tuition fees
The University of Skövde offers scholarships to students attending a Master's programme at our university. The scholarships are tuition fee waivers of SEK 60 000 / year (50% of the tuition fee ), and the amount will be deducted from the tuition fee when you receive the invoice. The criteria is academic merits. The scholarship can only be awarded to students from countries outside the European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA). Please note that you have to be able to finance the rest of the tuition fee yourself and to cover all the living expenses during your stay in Sweden.
