The Master´s Degree Programme in Educational Sciences is a new interdisciplinary programme coordinated by the School of Educational Sciences and Psychology at the University of Eastern Finland.
The programme offers students a lifelong learning perspective on Educational Sciences. Students may major either in Education or Adult Education. The curriculum has a global focus.
The studies open up comparative viewpoints to questions pertaining to lifelong learning and expertise, educational policy and educational research. Additional and alternative courses focus on topics such as active citizenship and career counseling.The programme gives students the research, evaluation and project management skills needed in international positions relating to Education and Adult Education.
The duration of the programme is approx. 2 years. After completing the programme students are awarded a Master of Education degree. This degree does not provide students with a formal teaching qualification.The programme is offered on the Joensuu campus of the UEF.
Contents
Orientation Studies 5ECTS
Help students to familiarise themselves with the UEF , it´s practices and with the multiple ways of studying provided.
Major Studies 90-95ECTS
The extent of major studies depends on the extent of the student’s other studies. If a minor (25 ECTS) is chosen, the total sum of major studies is 90 ECTS. If the student opts for individual study units of interest (total of 20 ECTS), the total sum of major studies is 95 ECTS.
Master´s Thesis (40ECTS) and a Work-based learning period (10ECTS) are included in the Major Studies.
Other Studies (20-25ECTS)
The 20 ECTS of other studies may include any English study units which serve to deepen the student’s expertise and which are available in the UEF faculties. It is also possible to opt for one minor (25 ECTS).
IELTS
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

All applicants must have: 1. A Bachelor’s degree (BA, BSc or equivalent officially recognised university degree) with an emphasis on education or adult education.
2. Proof of English language skills
Applicants must also provide:
(1) A study plan and (2) A preliminary research plan for the Master’s thesis
Please note. The applicants must have completed at least 20 ECTS worth of methodological studies in their Bachelor’s degree.
