The programme is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in the aquatic food production, whether they will be professionals in aquaculture production, industrial food production or natural resource management. The focus in AQFood is to address the entire value chain and to consider important aspects of economy, production management as well as environmental challenges making it a unique Master education.

The Nordic Master Programme "Aquatic Food Production – Safety and Quality" (AQFood) is offered by a consortium of five leading universities in the Nordic countries. The universities are working together to deliver a key education for the aquatic food sector.

AQFood is linking aquatic food production, processing and distribution with quality and safety issues of importance for tomorrow’s consumers, industry and society.

The five universities are:

* Technical University of Denmark (DTU), National Food Institute, Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark.
* Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Department of Biotechnology, Trondheim, Norway.
* Norwegian University of Life Science (UMB), Department of Mathematical Sciences and Technology, Aas, Norway.

Contents

The education is a 120 ECTS degree obtained in two years with a total of four semesters. The first two semesters are spent either at UMB, NTNU, or DTU with three possible study lines including specialization in Aquatic production, Natural resource, or Industrial Production respectively, with unique focus on the entire value chain. To adjust the students level of knowledge and give them the necessary understanding of the entire chain from production to processing, core courses are given in the first semester at the university of entry (UMB, NTNU or DTU).

The core courses are mandatory for all study tracks. The core consists of four e-learning courses (4x7.5 ECTS) proposed by three universities in the consortium and the content of these courses will be the same for all three universities. As part of the core courses a field trip and an industrial assignment (problem based assignment) will be mandatory. After the first year the student travels to another university in the consortium for further specialization within the chosen study track including a master thesis.
