Master of Science with a Major in Occupational Therapy is a part-time Web based distance programme, taught completely online. This means that there are no compulsory meetings on Campus. All contact with the School of Health Sciences and the lectures is provided via the internet

There are many benefits with this way of studying. It provides the opportunity to study from home, which means that you do not have to leave your family or country. Secondly, the programme is running on a part-time basis, which e.g. enables you to stay in your profession and work beside the studies.

The programme is designed to ensure that the participants expand their key skills in relation to their discipline and professional development during their studies.

The programme is split into different modules:

* Research methodology, 15 Credits
* Evidence based practice, 7,5 Credits
* Theoretical perspectives in health and welfare, 7,5 Credits
* The meaning of occupation to health, 7,5 Credits
* Occupational therapy, community based practice, 7,5 Credits
* Occupational Therapy, Thesis, 15 Credits

At the end of the programme students must complete an independent project (Thesis) worth at least 15 Credits. This final project should be performed individually or in pairs. If students work together, each student´s work should meet the demands on an individual project.

A Master of Science (60 Credits) is obtained after the student has successfully completed course requirements in the main field of their studies.

The modules are distributed via Internet and the web platform Ping-pong. Internet access with a
bandwith sufficient for watching streaming video is required (recommended minimum download speed 1 Mbps). The programme Is conducted and examined in English. Swedish-speaking students will be allowed to hand in their examinations in Swedish.

The next programme start is scheduled for August 2012.


Contents

The programme is split into modules (see below). The first module is a research-methodology module followed by in-depth studies in the main subject.

At the end of the programme students must complete an independent project (Thesis) worth at least 15 Credits. This final project should be performed individually or in pairs. If students work together, each student’s work should meet the demands on an individual project. A Master of Science (60 Credits)

Teaching and examination

The modules are distributed via internet and the web-platform Ping-pong. The modules are assessed separately using a range of assessment methods including research critique, literature review, written reports, essays and assignments. In a single course one of these methods, or a combination of them, may be used. Examinations may be carried out individually or in pair. Detailed
rules for examination is described in each course syllabus.

Those who have passed an exam are not allowed to retake it.

IELTS

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Requirements

The education emanates from a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy (180 Credits) including an independent project worth at least 15 Credits in Occupational Therapy.

Specific admission requirements

For this programme, where English is the language of instruction, the English language entry requirement is the equivalent of English studies at upper secondary level (post-16) in Sweden called English B. If your secondary school qualification in English does not meet these requirements, you must submit the official results of an internationally recognized test or examination.

The language of study at JIBS is English. All applicants are required to meet the standard English Language requirements corresponding to English B in the Swedish upper secondary school. We accept the following language tests:

* TOEFL*: with a minimum score of 550 with at least 4,0 in “Written test (TWE)" (paper based), 213 with at least 4,0 in “Essay Rating" (computer-based) or 79 with at least 17 in “Written test (TWE)"(Internet-based). Jönköping University TOEFL code 8487 / Central Admissions Office TOEFL code: 9520
* IELTS: with an overall band score of 6.0 and no part under 5.0.
* Cambridge/Oxford (Advanced or Proficiency)
