The overall aim of each of these 3 stand-alone distance-learning modules is to promote the understanding of the management of patients with leg ulceration, pressure ulceration and diabetic foot ulceration by exploring current evidence and practice. In addition these modules seek to advance the students' existing awareness, enabling them to extend their knowledge and develop strategies to improve the patients' outcome and quality of care.

Course Structure

These modules are offered as stand-alone modules. They are designed to introduce, in a non-threatening way, the non-graduate student to degree-level study. The modules are 16 weeks in length and constitute 30 credits at HE Level 6. Students are encouraged to study at their own pace to suit their own learning styles.

Access to on-line facilities is imperative as the module materials are accessed via Cardiff University’s online learning environment (Cardiff Portal / Learning Central). No attendance on campus is required and all contact is online via Learning Central or email, students are also able to telephone the Tutors for additional support if required.

The modular approach builds a foundation of knowledge in elements of tissue viability via a workbook with on-line tutor support. This flexible, self-directed distance learning model encompasses a practical and problem solving approach to learning.

As distance learning requires no attendance, students can pick when and how they study. Students can develop and plan their learning, particularly in relation to timing. The traditional didactic approach is replaced with the student choosing from a variety of learning resources that can compliment their learning style. Through multidisciplinary education the ethos of team work is encouraged with application of knowledge and skills gained from each module not only in the students own professional domain, but to that of other areas of practice. Each module must be completed in the 16 week period.

Special Features
* On-line submission of assignments and access to individual marks enables students to access and track their progress online.
* Inter-student, and student/tutor contact is readily accessible, and maintained through online discussion forums and online tutorials.
