This research programme distinguishes itself by its intense collaboration with the MA programmes in Media Studies and the Research Master's specialisation in Art History.
In this two-year programme you will acquire a valuable range of skills, disciplinary and interdisciplinary, historical and theoretical. Based on the premise that the study of cultural objects and cultural practices is founded on a shared theoretical and methodological framework, this programme includes the study of media, art and literature. Photography, film and the so-called new media are well-known paradigms of media, but painting, sculpture, architecture, literature are also viewed as specific media. They all contribute to the formation of cultures, which are studied in this programme in a historical perspective. The programme focuses on the content of what is being shaped by media (e.g. human subjectivity and behaviour, rituals, politics). In the third semester, you will have the opportunity to study at an international university, or to fulfil an internship in an art institution or museum in the Netherlands or abroad.
