Location of University of Surrey

The MSc Social Psychology looks at a range of topical social issues through the lens of social psychological theories in order to develop understanding and ideas for intervention. It is concerned with the scientific study of how we think about, influence and relate to one another.

The programme deals with, amongst other topics, issues of power and influence, the study of how individuals and groups interact to construct and maintain identities and how these are related to societal change. Through this, the programme aims to provide you with an awareness of the historical and philosophical background of social psychology and an in-depth knowledge of contemporary theoretical and methodological approaches to the discipline. You will be part of a diverse group of students at the cutting edge of innovative attempts to apply social psychological theory to everyday thought, emotion and behaviour.

Module Overview
You are required to complete two compulsory core-content modules and four compulsory research-oriented modules. In addition, you will need to complete two additional modules of your choice, selected from the MSc module catalogue and from a list of final-year undergraduate modules.

You will also be required to present a dissertation comprising an original piece of empirical research within any area of social psychology. Your dissertation will be approved and supervised by one of the Department’s academic staff.

IELTS

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Normally at least an Upper Second class honours degree in psychology from a UK university (or recognised equivalent overseas qualification)

If your first language is not English, we will require some evidence of your proficiency in the English language. Applicants must be able to demonstrate an ability to understand and express themselves in both written and spoken English. You may be required to take an approved proficiency test examination and/or attend a course of English language study before admission.

The following qualifications/tests are suitable as evidence that you meet our minimum level of competence:

* Cambridge Proficiency Examination (Grade C)
* GCSE/GCE Ordinary Level in English (Grade C)
* International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (Band 6)
* NEAB Test in English
* Test in English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) (score of 550 on the paper-based test or 213 on the computer-based test)
* AEB Test in English for Educational Purposes (Grade III)

The Association of MBAs (AMBA) accreditation is widely recognised as the global standard for MBA programmes. The association has acted as an advocate for MBA programmes around the world since 1967 and assesses business schools and their post-experience management programmes against rigorous criteria. * The institution offering an MBA should have a clear strategy and mission, explicitly expressed and regularly updated. It will have a clear understanding of the market for its products.
