Our MSc in e-Business Management has been designed for those who wish to operate effectively in the e-business environment and manage either the transformation of existing business processes or creation of new e-business activity.

The course is suitable for graduates from a whole range of science, engineering and business backgrounds as well as those with a qualification in IT.

We will provide you with

The techniques to evaluate and manage strategic development of e-business based organisations and manage appropriate enabling e-business technologies

You will learn how to evaluate, manage and improve the operational functions of an organisation and apply the concepts of systems integration to the design and development of products and services through market analysis.

After You Graduate

Graduates can expect to be employed in information technology and software related companies, enterprises with existing or developing online e-business initiatives, particularly those in the engineering and/or manufacturing sector.

Successful alumni often go into IT and e-business consultancy roles, both self-employed and in large consultancy groups.

* Students with a background of study in a Computer Science or IT related subject, or significant work experience in IT can be exempted from this module.

If you can gain exemption from some of the core modules because of prior experience or qualifications, then you may choose more electives.

Elective Modules

You can choose up to three electives from the list of elective modules.

You are advised to select one or more of the recommended electives which are Enterprise Information Systems, Computer Programming, Collaborative Product Development, Computer Graphics & Visualisation, e-Health Technologies or e-Commerce, although other modules can be selected by agreement.

If you gain exemption from some of the compulsory modules because of prior experience or qualifications, then you must choose more electives.

Project

The project is worth 50% of the final grade and supports you in developing your personal research skills. For e-Business Management the project should normally be related to management or technology-related issues in companies involved in e-Business and e-Commerce.

Work on your project runs concurrently with your module work. In addition to face-to-face meetings, supervisors may expect you to use online tools such as Warwick Forums or Warwick Blogs.

You are expected to devote an appropriate portion of your time and intellectual effort to the project during the course i.e. approximately 900 hours or 6 months study.

Examples of some projects are:

  • Investigation of virtual communities for competitive advantage.
  • Measuring success for business websites.
  • Technical computing projects/systems design.
  • The impact of mass-customisation in the on-line environment.
  • The impact of Distributed Denial of Service attacks on SMEs.
  • Comparison of effectiveness of online advertising to traditional media.

Learning Style

The taught component of the course is a mixture of traditional lectured material, syndicate/group work, large scale delivery, practical work, online learning and forum activities. Module leaders are experts in their fields and are supported by external speakers working in organisations at the forefront of their fields.

Industrial visits are available to all students and the course is assessed through assignments.

Each module will usually last one week.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Requirements

For our MSc programmes you should normally have obtained at least the equivalent of a UKsecond class honours degree, or an equivalent qualification in a science, engineering, IT, business or management discipline.

If you have a good honours degree in another discipline, and can show proof of satisfactory numeracy, you may also be considered. We may also consider degrees in other disciplines if you have two or more years of relevant work experience.

English Requirements

Studying at Warwick requires a high level of competence in English. If you are a non-native English speaker you must show English test results equivalent to IELTS 6.5 with broadly consistent scores in the elements of the test. We accept IELTS, Pearson Test in English (Academic) and TOEFL (iBT).

The University Of Warwick is currently in the later stages of discussions with (ISC)² regarding the formation of an Academic Alliance. The Academic Alliance concerns the delivery of the Official (ISC)² CISSP Compact Review Seminar & Certification Examination to the MSc Cyber Security Management students at the University, allowing them to benefit from both academic as well as professional certification excellence.

Funding details

In 2012, WMG will be awarding up to £500,000 in scholarships and bursaries to students on our full-time MSc programmes. Note that these awards apply only to students who will commence their studies Autumn 2012.

Special Bursaries for students from Latin America, Iran, Turkey and Syria

If you are deemed for fee purposes to be from a Latin American country, Iran, Turkey or Syria then you will automatically be awarded these tuition fee bursaries. There is no need to apply for these awards and there is no deadline, they are given to all eligible offer-holders who are from these areas. Note that the Turkish and Syrian awards are dependent on your final GPA as awarded by a recognised Turkish / Syrian Institution. If you are a Turkish or Syrian national but studied at undergraduate level at a University outside your home country, a judgement will be made by us on the GPA equivalence. These awards will be paid towards tuition fees only.
