The specialization will provide students with a broad understanding of multiple issues in contemporary communication and media as well the influence they have on modern societies. Students will gain theoretical and practical knowledge that is necessary for a career in various branches of contemporary media. The program of the specialization, which is interdisciplinary in nature, is constructed in a unique way so that students could understand how the communication and information media actually work. The principal attention is paid to the cultural dimensions of the contemporary media, and especially to the social aspects of new technologies for communication.
Objectives and learning outcomes
This specialization will help students to inter alia:
Employment perspectives
Obligatory courses
Strategies for Effective International Communication
In addition to the above:
Note: Collegium Civitas reserves itself a possibility of slight changes in the list of courses.
A group of at least 15 students is required for this specialization to run.
After having successfully completed this specialization, students will be granted a diploma of Master of Arts in International Relations, specialization: Intercultural Communication and Media.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
More informationIf you are genuinely interested in International Relations or Political Science and you are convinced that you are a well-qualified candidate, there are two really important elements of the admissions package that you have to get before becoming a student at our university: a proof of English proficiency and a legalization of your diploma (or an apostille) together with a certificate stating that you are entitled to study at a university/college.
The legalization or the apostille together with the certificate are necessary to have your diploma nostrified (recognized) in Poland or to have it exempt from nostrification (in the case of Higher Education Diplomas).
Important additional requirements for non-Polish citizens stemming from the legal regulations concerning recognition of school certificates and diplomas from institutions of higher education:
a) Only diplomas issued in Polish or English can be considered. Diplomas issued in other languages have to be translated into Polish or English by an official translator or by the Polish Embassy or Consulate.
b) While in Poland, international students will be required to nostrify their diplomas in a local educational council unless they come from the countries with which Poland has special recognition agreements

Studies in English at Collegium Civitas are comprised of two departments:the Department of International Relations andthe Department of Political Science. The departments' faculties embrace lecturers and researchers who are the University's employees, as well as those who work at the Polish Academy of Sciences. The Departments also attract visiting professors from different universities, located from Japan to the United States. Both Departments pursue two primary goals in the creation of their study programs and curricula: to provide solid and comprehensive education in a given field of social sciences and to ensure that students are made conversant with the most topical and significant issues of the modern world.
Collegium Civitas boasts accreditation from the National Accreditation Commission and from the University Accreditation Commission at the Conference of Rectors of Polish Universities. Collegium Civitas is formally entitled to grant MA and BA degrees in International Relations, Political Science and Sociology. MA in Human Rights and Genocide Studies - European Joint Master's Program In recent years there has been a growing academic and practical interest in human rights and in a separate but related issue of genocide, with an increasing concern with how genocide might be prevented or halted. The European Master of Arts in Human Rights and Genocide Studies Program is concerned directly with these major themes of our time. This Program is a unique inter-disciplinary MA degree program, the first of its kind in Europe. It is taught in 4 universities:
Collegium Civitas, Warsaw (Poland)
European University-Viadrina, Frankfurt (Oder) (Germany)
Kingston University, London (UK)
Siena University, Siena (Italy)
Upon being accepted as a student by Collegium Civitas, the student will be required to complete 180 credit points if she is a student of the First Cycle (i.e. enrolled on one of the 3-year BA degree programs) or 120 credits points if she is a student of the Second Cycle (i.e. enrolled on one of the 2-year MA degree programs).
All courses held within both the Department of International Relations and the Department of Political Science fall into two groups: obligatory and elective. The obligatory courses are usually introductory courses (especially during the first year of study), basic courses, and advanced and specialized courses. The specialized courses are compulsory for students who have chosen their specialization.
Collegium Civitas adheres to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). On average, each course earns a total of four credit points. The duration of an average course is thirty academic hours, resulting in classes being held once a week for two hours during any given semester. There is an increasing, albeit still small, number of 15-hour courses, which run over half a semester.
Apart from the obligatory and elective courses, there are also mandatory language courses worth two credit points each. Students are required to take and complete courses in two different foreign languages during their period of study at Collegium Civitas as MA students and in one foreign language as BA students. Physical education is mandatory during the second year of BA studies and it earns two credit points. The writing and submitting of either a BA or MA thesis provide a student with additional credit points, 10 or 20 respectively. Within one semester a student is required to collect a minimum of 27 and maximum of 33 credit points.
