The processes of urban planning, design, transition and management are extremely complex and laden with compound uncertainties. The Sustainable Urban Transitions Nordic Master's programme (SUT) provides integrated knowledge development and capacity building for young professionals focusing on sustainable urban development.

Career prospects
This programme reflects different ways of addressing critical challenges linked to urban transition. Career opportunities will thus be found in the public sector (agencies for urban/regional planning, management and governance), in development institutions (local and international) and in NGOs and consultancy firms active in the field of urban transition. As the programme is integrated into the research environments at the participating universities it also provides a solid platform for pursuing an academic career.

Contents

The Sustainable Urban Transitions Nordic Master's programme is a joint, two-year master's programme offered by the Nordic Five Tech (N5T), an alliance between the leading Nordic technical universities. This programme offers five tracks in total, one of which is the KTH track Urban Regional Transitions which is supplied jointly with Aalto University in Finland and the Technical University of Denmark (DTU).
Since this programme results in a double degree, students should complete at least 60 ECTS of coursework at KTH and Aalto University or DTU respectively. Students who apply to the Sustainable Urban Transitions Master's programme at KTH will start their first year of studies (60 ECTS) on the Urban Regional Transitions track at KTH. Students with a Bachelor's degree in Architecture will continue to Aalto University to complete their second year of studies (60 ECTS), while students with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering will complete their second year at DTU.

Degree project
The degree project comprises 30 ECTS and provides students with the opportunity to investigate a problem in depth under the supervision of experienced practitioners and researchers. Students conduct their degree project at the second year university, i.e. DTU or Aalto university with a supervisor from DTU or Aalto University and a co-supervisor from KTH. The supervision from each of the two degree-awarding institutions involved in the programme ensures the integration of all programme components.
