The programme focuses on environmental science and physical planning. It provides students with a systems perspective on environmental issues, focusing on planning processes, international and transboundary issues, and training in using tools such as systems analysis and GIS. The programme includes three compulsory courses and up to three optional elective courses, which allows students to profile their education. The programme concludes with a thesis, of up to 60 higer education credits.
The three compulsory courses are Applied Environmental Modelling, International Environmental Issues and Environmental Law and Planning, or alternatively Environmental Management in Planning for non-Swedish students. The Applied Environmental Modelling course provides students with an introduction to system thinking and systems analysis.
International Environmental Issues focuses on international and transboundary environmental issues. Environmental Law and Planning covers basics in environmental law and physical planning. Members of the teaching staff are drawn from Stockholm University, KTH and other universities, as well as from authorities, organisations, NGO´s and companies. This programme is important for professions related to national and international environmental management by governmental agencies, municipalities, companies and NGO´s.
The two-year Master’s Programme consists of 120 higher education credits (HECs):
* 45 HECs Mandatory advanced courses
* 15-45 HECs Optional courses
* 30-60 HECs Thesis (mandatory)
The number of optional courses taken will be dependent on the period of time devoted to the Master Thesis, which may extend over one or two terms.
The first year consists of three mandatory courses and one optional course:
* Applied Environmental Modelling, 15 HECs
* Optional course, 15 HECs
* Environmental Law and Planning, 15 HECs (in Swedish language) or Environmental Management in Planning, 15 HECs (in English language)
* International Environmental Issues, 15 HECs
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 90 ECTS credits in Geoscience or Geography, or equivalent science or civil engineering competence. English B (Swedish upper secondary school course) or equivalent, or one of the following tests: IELTS: 6.5 (with no section below 5.5). TOEFL (paper based): 575 (with minimum score 4,5 in the written test). TOEFL (internet based): 90 (with minimum score 20 in the written test). University of Cambridge and Oxford: Certificate in Advanced English or Diploma of English Studies.
