Landscape Analysis has traditionally been primarily a map-reading task. Today, maps and mapping are digital, as are many other types of geographical information. Geographic information systems (GIS) make efficient management of data possible, thus facilitating many different types of analysis and modelling. Landscape change, environmental monitoring and mapping, as well as environmental issues in general, feature significantly on the daily political agenda. This situation is further enhanced by international environmental agreements that demand the continuous reporting of the status of and changes in the environment. Consequently, graduates mastering skills in data acquisition methods and analysis, as well as in visualisation and mapping, are in high demand in both the public and private sectors. This Master’s programme develops students’ skills in several fields, such as remote sensing, GIS, methods for modelling, explorative data analysis and visualisation with a focus on landscape information.
The programme includes a number of compulsory courses: Applied Remote Sensing, GIS and Cartography for Landscape Analysis; Positioning, Map Projections and Digital Photogrammetry; Remote Sensing and Digital Image Processing; and Geographic Analysis and Visualisation in GIS.
The number of elective courses that students take is dependent on the period of time devoted to the master’s thesis.
The two-year Master’s Programme consists of 120 higher education credits (HECs):
* 45 HECs Mandatory advanced courses
* 15-45 HECs Optional courses
* 30-60 HECs Thesis (mandatory)
The number of optional courses taken will be dependent on the period of time devoted to the Master Thesis, which may extend over one or two terms.
The first year consists of four mandatory courses and one optional course:
* Applied Environmental Modelling, 15 HECs
* Geographic Analysis and Visualisation in GIS, 15 HECs
* Positioning, Map Projections and Digital Photogrammetry, 7,5 HECs
* Remote Sensing and Digital Image Processing, 7,5 HECs
* Optional course, 15 HECs
