International curatorial master´s programme focusing on art, realized in cooperation with leading art institutions.

The aims of the programme are to provide profound theoretical and practical skills in exhibition creation, organizing various types of productions and presentations as well as providing insights into the relations between theoretical thinking and visual creation.

Theoretical courses and separate seminars in art philosophy and exhibition theory, management and law are combined with practice based projects and 10 weeks internship at Swedish or international institutions. In addition to the master thesis the student also produces a final curatorial project.

The programme prepares for career options such as curator, exhibition producer or project manager. Furthermore it provides rich opportunities for creating networks relevant to the student’s future professional career.


Contents

The program constitutes of 8 program specific courses of 7,5 ECTS credits, 1 program specific course module of 15 ECTS credits (half time), 1 internship term of 15 ECTS credits (half time and parallel to the other course module on half time), 1 degree project consisting of an exhibition and a master thesis (30 ECTS credits).
Preparatory work on the exhibition and master thesis (7,5 ECTS credits) are taken in a separate course module in the first year and the remaining 22,5 ECTS credits are taken the second year of the education.
In addition to the courses the student will participate in 8 seminars per year, relating to the interpretation of images and exhibitions. The student will furthermore arrange and take part in 8 seminars per year that focus on issues with relevance to the program.
The program is a collaboration between the Department of Art History, the School of Business, the Department of Law at Stockholm University and external art institutions.

Requirements

Applicants are required to have a Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in any academic or artistic training, or with relevant, documented professional experience. For applicants without a university degree, the general qualifications for studies at Swedish universities are to be fulfilled. Applicants without a university education need to submit in the application a certificate of complete upper secondary education, documented by diploma or mark sheets. English B (Swedish upper secondary school course) or equivalent, or one of the following tests: IELTS: 6.5 (with no section below 5.5). TOEFL (paper based): 575 (with minimum score 4,5 in the written test). TOEFL (Internet based): 90 (with minimum score 20 in the written test), University of Cambridge and Oxford: Certificate in Advanced English or Diploma of English Studies.
