The aim of this Master’s programme is to provide students with a strong ability to independently use economic theory and empirical methods in the analysis of various social problems. After graduation the student will be able to work in the private or public sector in the type of employment for skilled analysts and investigators that is commonplace in government offices, government agencies, financial organizations and more. The student will also be qualified to perform independent investigative and analytical work in the field of economics and inspect and assess current research.
This two-year programme consists of compulsory courses in economic theory and empirical methods (45 credits), elective courses that allow students to tailor their studies to meet their own interests (45 credits) and a Master’s thesis (30 credits).
The programme, which amounts to 120 HECs, partly consists of courses in semesters 1-4, and partly of the writing of an individual Master thesis in semesters 3-4. The Master programme consists of courses in economics at the second (advanced) and third (research) levels. Courses in mathematics and statistics are at the first level.
Courses in other subjects at the first level might be included and are then stipulated in special guidelines.
All instruction in the programme is usually in English and each individual course is usually given part-time. Thus, two courses are usually taken in parallel. Deviations from these main regulations are stipulated in special guidelines. The courses Methodology Seminars 1-3 are taken on a part-time basis during the first three semesters of the programme. Other conditions for instruction and examination are stated both in the individual syllabuses and in special guidelines.
