Managing in a Global Context is a programme especially designed to equip you with the skills and tools required to become an effective leader in diverse business contexts (such as various industries and types of organisations) and varied intercultural settings.
The programme acknowledges that contemporary markets are increasingly complex and dynamic in terms of culture and demand, that information and communication are salient for success, and that the discourse on corporate responsibility for sustainability is crucial.
The language of instruction is English and you meet with students from all parts of the world. Through group and project-oriented work you develop your planning and collaboration skills, and experience intercultural relations.
Content
You can apply either for a one-year or two-year version of the programme.
During the first year, all courses are compulsory. Courses in business creation, advanced leadership, organising and leading change, corporate entrepreneurship and strategic renewal, and corporate social responsibility provide you with the basis for management positions in contemporary business markets. In the second semester, however, you decide on the topic for your 15-credit thesis.
If you study the two-year version of the programme, your third semester consists of elective courses. This enables you to customize and deepen your knowledge base in a particular area. The second year also prepares you to embark on doctoral studies by including an advanced methods course and another thesis. If you study the two-year version of the programme you can study your third semester abroad — further adding to the international dimension of your education and knowledge.
The education is supported by faculty with substantial experience and activity in management research; with some active in JIBS´ highly recognized research centres on Media Management and Transformation (MMTC), and Family Enterprise and Ownership (CeFEO). The involvement of this faculty in your education ensures that you encounter innovative and current research throughout your programme studies.
Further studies
The two-year version of the programme prepares you well for continued studies on a doctoral level.
Career Prospects
Future leaders need special skills to successfully meet and manage the challenges of globalised, dynamic markets and competitive environments, while at the same time anchoring their business activities in the local context. Depending on your background, there are a wide range of careers you can pursue after graduation, such as: project leader, change manager, international business developer, head of operations, and CEO.
