The Faculty's postgraduate taught course programme provides a range of training opportunities according to your background and intended career path, covering key areas of basic science and clinical and social medicine. Master's degree courses are excellent training if you intend to pursue a career in research. Many students go on to study for a PhD, where they find that the academic training and research expertise acquired during their MSc or MRes is invaluable, both in choosing a high calibre project and in carrying it out successfully.

This two-year part-time course offers a sound theoretical background to the principles of clinical risk management, quality improvement and patient safety. It provides rigorous academic training, practical experience in safety and quality improvement, and an introduction to appropriate research methods.

The course comprises formal lectures, workshops, tutorials and web-based self-directed learning and assignments. A research project is undertaken during the course with submission of a dissertation in the final year. By the end of the programme, you will have enhanced your understanding of quality and safety related to your discipline, working practice and healthcare in general, and have developed skills in the use of computing and statistics applied to healthcare.
