The optical technologies are the enabling technologies of the 21st century.
The photonics industry plays an essential role in areas such as information and communication technology, lighting and manufacturing, image analysis, security, defense, space, life sciences and medical technology. The industry being active in these fields has an extraordinary demand for highly qualified professionals.
The International Master's Degree Programme in Photonics is a two-year programme taught in English at Department of Physics and Mathematics in University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu, Finland.
The objective of the programme is to educate students with outstanding skills needed both in international careers and post-graduate studies in optics, photonics and related fields. The programme covers all the important aspects of photonics from theory to practical work carried out in world-class facilities.
The Master's Degree Programme in photonics comprises of 120 ECTS credits, which can be completed in two years.
The Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Photonics is an international two year full time study program. Degree consists of 120 ECTS credits of studies in one main subject, photonics.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The objective of Master’s degree in photonics is to give students good expertise on modern optics and photonics in both theoretical and experimental level. This contains ability to understand optical phenomena, design and analysis of optical systems, fabrication methods of photonics structures, and ability to scientific and technical communication in photonics. This all gives capability to work in photonics related companies as an expert and developer, and to continue to PhD studies in photonics. The education is based on high-quality photonics research in the department.
