The MA Textiles degree course is constructed around the development of individual research into textile culture, craft and design, allowing you to combine previous experience of textiles practice with a personal project.
Key study topics include:
* Planning of your exploratory project
* Develop research, communication and presentation methods
* Complete a reflective project that includes professional practice and a work placement opportunity
* Produce a final project that represents the central ideas and concepts developed throughout the course
* Resolve your project as a practice based work or a dissertation or a combination of both.
Syllabus (2010 entry*)
You specialise in either woven or printed textiles and develop the ability to structure and extend the study of textiles at an advanced level. You have the opportunity to take part in field visits and extended periods of study outside of the University, which not only inform professional development but also encourage you to question and debate relevant historical and contemporary theories.
Stage 1
* Contextual perspectives 1 – development of the foundations for successful creative arts practice.
* Exploratory project – development of a critical and methodological framework for final project.
Stage 2
* Contextual perspectives 2 - understanding a range of contextual and theoretical discourses key to the creative arts.
* Reflective project – undertaking professional practice, which could include working to a 'live' brief, an application for residency, funding or an exhibition proposal.
Stage 3
* Final project – undertaking a major piece of research on a subject area/topic of choice.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

* A good Honours degree (normally 2:1 or above) or equivalent qualification in your chosen subject or a related discipline, and/or;
* Relevant work experience, demonstrating your ability to study at postgraduate level.
English language requirements
If your first language is not English a certificate is required as evidence that you have an average IELTS score of 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each individual component) or equivalent.
You may be offered a place on a course on the condition that you improve your English language and study skills. We offer two pre-sessional English language courses which can improve your IELTS score by a maximum of 1.0 and 0.5, or equivalent.
Portfolio
A personal statement is required, explaining your motivation to study the course and the areas you wish to explore, referring to relevant concepts, practical textile skills you possess and your ambitions for the type of work you wish to create. A practical portfolio that includes a range of work expressing your creativity is required at interview.
