Clinical Supervision is viewed in the field as an essential component of counselling psychology and psychotherapy training and practice. The growing importance and the essential nature of supervision is reflected in the increasing competencies sought by professional bodies for psychologists, psychotherapists and mental health professionals and indeed, in the demand for formal training in supervision.
The M.Sc. in Clinical Supervision is aimed at practitioners in the helping professions. It is specifically aimed at practising psychologists, (counselling, clinical, educational, health, work & organizational, etc.) psychotherapists, counsellors, educators, mental health and social care professionals etc., who wish to further their professional development, research capability and advanced clinical practice in supervision to Masters degree level.
The M.Sc. in Clinical Supervision (Psychology) is offered by Trinity College, School of Psychology. It is a two year part-time course aimed at experienced and practising psychologists, psychotherapists, educators, mental health and social care professionals who hold an honours degree in psychology or a related field and who wish to further their professional development, research capability and train as clinical supervisors.
There are six taught modules. In addition each year students are required to successfully complete a Professional Clinical Practice Module under clinical supervision. Students are also required to submit a dissertation based on empirical enquiry into an aspect of clinical supervision.

Competence is developed through a combination of lectures, experiential learning workshops, discussions, clinical supervision, group and peer supervision, written assignments, tutorials and professional clinical practice. All modules are compulsory and each has an assessment component.
Teaching and Learning Methods
Teaching will be delivered through lectures, interactive classes, seminars, presentations, group work and so forth. Student led seminars are particularly important in developing students confidence and presentation skills. Various seminars and workshops will be jointly offered to M.Sc. and P.Grad. Diploma students.
The primary methods by which students are expected to learn are;

* Practical classes and workshops, experiential learning methods e.g. role-play

Modules of Assessment
Summative, Formative, Continuous, Self Assessment, Tutor and Supervisor Assessment
Modules will be assessed on a continuous assessment basis which occurs throughout the year through meetings with Course Director and tutor, course work, assignments, feedback from Clinical Supervisor and so forth. Assessment varies according to the requirements of the modules and each module has independent assessment. A combination of written and practical assignments includes feedback reports from the course approved supervisor of professional practice, written papers, an audio/visual case studies, learning contracts, tests, presentations, research proposal and a dissertation.
Procedures for dissertation will be conducted in accordance with College regulations and procedures. Please refer to the Postgraduate College Calendar for further information. Dissertations have a research supervisor and an external examiner.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

* Post qualification and/or training and experience in supervision
* Demonstration of commitment to ongoing professional development (e.g. further training workshops, seminars, conferences)
* Currently practising and a full member of a recognised professional body e.g. the Psychological Society of Ireland, the Irish Council for Psychotherapy, the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, the British Psychological Society or professional equivalent.
* Have access to a supervisee base for professional clinical practice
