The Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Supervision offers post qualification training in the theory and practice of supervision. Competence is developed through a combination of lectures, workshops, tutorials, clinical supervision, peer supervision, written assignments and professional practice.
The course is aimed at practising psychologists, psychotherapists / counsellors and mental health professionals who wish to further their professional development and train as supervisors.
This course is offered on a part-time basis over the academic year with days and times to facilitate students who are working full time. The course will be scheduled on Saturdays throughout the year, (approx. two per month) and on average 4-5 Friday afternoons per year (2.00pm - 7.30/8.00pm).
The course commences in October through to June, with one additional date in September. It is a specialised small group programme which draws upon the major models of supervision in the context of the reflective practitioner. Along with class attendance, there is a further requirement of 60 hours professional practice and a minimum of 12 hours of off-site supervision for this practice.
The main areas which have informed the development of this programme include: the reflective practitioner, clinical supervision in counselling bound and generic forms, learning and adult education theory, group process, supervisor/supervisee development, assessment and evaluation, ethical, legal and professional responsibility, management, administration, current research and development in the field. The following modules are currently offered (all of which are compulsory):

* Clinical Supervision Relationship, Roles and Tasks
* Clinical Supervision and Contexts
* Clinical Supervision - Legal and Ethical Issues
* Peer and Group Supervision
* Professional Practice
Costs associated with Professional Practice and supervision of that practice are additional to course fees and the responsibility of the student. Group supervision is facilitated within the course.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

* Primary degree in psychology or related field, e.g. education etc.
* Postgraduate training in psychology (counselling, clinical, educational, organizational, health etc.) or psychotherapy / counselling as documented by the Psychological Society of Ireland, the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, the Irish Council for Psychotherapy or professional equivalent.
* Have access to a supervisee base for supervision practice.
* Hold professional public indemnity insurance for supervision
