They are able to concentrate and take effective decisions. Final applicants possess a basic knowledge of sciences such as mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology and are proficient in dental science.
The academic programme, spread over 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time (60 credits in total) involves theoretical courses, self-study, preclinics and demonstrations in the field of Forensic Dentistry.
The programme stresses a multidisciplinary interaction with forensic medicine, judicial bodies, insurance companies, etc. Critical scientific reading, understanding of experimental methodologies, statistical analysis and interpretation skills of results constitute the typical profile of a Master of Forensic Odontology.
The service of dentists to courts in penitential cases is rising. The identification of victims or possible criminals plays an important part in certain criminal or other cases. Dental law is little developed in Belgium and its neighbouring countries. For a thorough preparation in dental law problems a Master of Forensic Odontology is extremely useful.
