It primarily focuses on adults with intellectual or other developmental disabilities which typically manifest themselves in early childhood. The course aims to expand the knowledge and skills of clinicians working with service users and enhance the analytical skills required for service development.
Students on the course take five modules: Basic Mental Health, Research Principles & Methods, two specialist modules and a Reseach Dissertation. The Basic module provides an overview of: theoretical perspectives on mental illness; diagnosis and assessment; psychiatric disorders and approaches to treatment, management and care.

You will also attend a Research Methods module, which provides grounding in research principles and methods, and complete a research-based dissertation.
