The Faculty's postgraduate taught course programme provides a range of training opportunities according to students' backgrounds and intended career paths, covering key areas of basic science and clinical and social medicine. Master's courses are excellent training for those who intend to pursue a career in research. Many students go on to study for a PhD, where they find that the academic training and research expertise acquired during their MSc or MRes is invaluable both in choosing a high calibre project and in carrying it out successfully.

For medical and surgical graduates, the clinical MSc courses provide further academic clinical training combined with research experience and are an excellent preparation for those intending to follow higher specialist training. Our clinical courses cater for specialist needs in medical care, aiming to provide up-to-date insight into, and experience of, modern approaches to medical and surgical management. Joint seminar programmes, guest lectures and clinical rounds ensure a highly interactive and collaborative environment for both basic and clinical scientists.

This part-time course is designed to provide up to date knowledge and identify the evidence upon which to base both current and future practice. Throughout the course a work-related dissertation should be prepared for submission in September of the final year.

The course is designed to provide an academically challenging and innovative approach to cardio-respiratory nursing by placing research and dissemination squarely alongside familiar management, practical and teaching roles at senior clinical level. Thus it will provide the skills and background necessary to follow a senior clinical career in cardiac and/or respiratory nursing and a sound basis for PhD study.
