The Imperial Executive MBA is a two-year part-time programme designed for people who are already in a demanding job and want to transform their business effectiveness and careers.
It bridges the gap between theory and practice and allows you to gain core business knowledge and skills while having the flexibility to follow your individual interests. You immediately apply your new knowledge and skills in the work place, fast-tracking the learning process.
It gives you the freedom to explore your own interests through four electives and your individual project, while taking eight core courses and our Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Design course, as well as an International Study Tour.
The Business School is consistently ranked in the top 10 worldwide for entrepreneurship, and is widely recognised for its research and teaching of innovation.
The programme is available in two separate modes to suit individual needs and preferences: part-time weekend and part-time weekdays.
The part-time weekend mode suits people who enjoy more independent study, with an emphasis on virtual learning complemented by four intense days a month (Thursday to Sunday) in college. Students can fit the schedule into their holiday entitlement, and can also fly in monthly from abroad.
The part-time weekday mode suits students who can take more time off from work and who enjoy learning with other people. This mode is taught in college every other Friday plus 8 three weekday blocks during the first year.
Core coursesThe core courses ensure you have an in-depth understanding of the essential business disciplines, giving you a solid knowledge base which you can apply to practical projects throughout the rest of the programme. You’ll build on previous experience and acquire new skills in accounting, economics, finance, statistics, marketing, organisational behaviour and strategy.
Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Design (IE&D)The IE&D course is a collaboration between Imperial College Business School, Imperial Innovations, the Royal College of Art (RCA) and other partners. Beyond standard lectures, it offers you a real entrepreneurial journey, during which you take an innovative idea of your own, or one offered by us, and turn it into a marketable product. The process is as relevant to someone exploring innovation within an organisation as it is if you are planning to start your own business.
ElectivesYou’ll take five Elective courses which provide you with the opportunity to specialise in an area of particular interest or to explore new avenues.
ProjectPutting into practice the theory taught on the MBA, this project allows you to develop specialised expertise by researching a real business issue. Projects range from consultancy assignments to theoretical analyses.
International Study Tour The International Study Tour allows you to experience business in an international context and includes a combination of site visits and talks from top executives relevant to the core management disciplines you are studying. In 2011, EMBA students will visit Brazil or China to explore these emerging economies.
