The PgDip/MSc in Leadership and Management in Health is a flexible, modular programme with a part-time version taught at Kingston Business School, Kingston University and a full-time version at Royal Holloway, University of London. In partnership with St George's, University of London, these three centres of learning excellence are the principal members of the Institute of Leadership & Management in Health (ILMH), part of the SouthWest London Academic Network (SWAN).
This unique programme is specifically designed to meet the needs of those already working, or intending to work, in the health and social care services in the public, private and voluntary sectors in both the UK and internationally. Its evidence base is drawn from the latest research and practice in health sector leadership and management, combined with the practical application of new knowledge and skills to work-based situations. The course is based on the new health leadership competencies in the UK, and all assessments are designed to have application in the workplace.
What will you study?
There will be an induction programme introducing you to the modules and the aims of the course, and giving guidance on the approach to study. The programme starts with a personal assessment, using the leading edge Saville Consultancy Wave TM. This assesses personal leadership strengths and identifies areas for development.
You will then go on to study the functional aspects of healthcare management:
* leadership and management of people;
* delivering quality, finance and marketing in the health care industry;
* information management; and
* the management of change.
You will then have the choice of studying international health policy, or undertaking a project based on your own work, or selecting a module relating to an aspect of professional development.
Finally, for those taking the MSc, you will complete a Research Methods module and a dissertation. Professional and leadership development activities will take place throughout the course, and there will be many opportunities for updating and broadening knowledge through attending events arranged by the SWAN partners and ILMH.
Please note: this list relates to the part-time course (see the Royal Holloway, University of London website for modules for the full-time course). This is an indicative list of modules and is not intended as a definitive list.
