This Masters award offers a strong critical and interdisciplinary context for advanced study in the field of moving image. Creativity, experimentation and innovation are encouraged by studying diverse forms of moving image production, including narrative film, experimental film, world cinema, documentary, video art, multimedia installation, performance and online media. The course provides an opportunity for individuals to develop their personal practice through the exploration of new forms, contexts and discourse.

With both full-time and part-time study modes and two annual start dates the course is ideal for flexible postgraduate study for individuals from diverse backgrounds. You may be a recent media or arts graduate wishing to further your practice, have a background in visual arts and want to expand your studio practice to include audio-visual media, be an educator looking to deepen your understanding of interdisciplinary forms or you may be a professional working in the media industries who wants to reflect upon and challenge your professional practice

Our MA Moving Image is part of the Skillset Media Academy Wales, a partnership of the leading film and media schools in Wales, offering an exceptionally high standard of education that is endorsed by industry. Students on our Moving Image course will benefit from close contact with the Academy’s Industry Panel, access to professional masterclasses and workshops, networking, jobs and work placements, and the opportunity to promote work through an exclusive online network.


Contents

What You Will Study
* Experimental Practices: provides an environment to foster a creative engagement with the moving image through lectures and workshop exercises
* Pilot Project: your opportunity to test the conceptual and practical aims of your major production project
* Production Project: provides tutorial and targeted workshop support for the production of significant individual final projects
* Histories and Theories of the Moving Image 1 and 2: explores theory in relation to practice in a variety of contexts relevant to the moving image
* Research Methods: develops research skills relevant to a creative, practice-led field of study
or
* Professional Studies: provides the opportunity to develop key skills for the media and arts sector and promote your work in the public domain

How You Will Study
You will learn through workshops, lectures, screenings, masterclasses with industry professionals, seminars, guest lectures and gallery visits. Taught sessions from a number of academics within the field’s of media and arts will challenge and develop your practical and theoretical skills. You will also receive mentoring in individual tutorials throughout your studies.

Course length
One year full-time: You will undertake two terms of taught classes and one term of self-directed study.

Two years part-time: Study consists of three terms of taught classes and two terms of self-directed study. This allows students to undertake a production outside the UK if they wish.

IELTS

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Entry Requirements:

A good Honours degree, or equivalent diploma, or comparable industry experience. Prospective students must also present a portfolio of work that shows
evidence of some creative and technical competence.

English Language Entry Requirements:

Proficiency in the English language is essential and the University recognises the following English language qualifications:

* GCSE pass in English at Grade C or above
* The British Council´s International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) with an average overall
score of 6.0 for undergraduate study and 6.5 for postgraduate study
* TOEFL minimum score for undergraduate of 550 paper based, 213 CBT or 79-80 IBT / for Postgraduate a minimum score of 575 paper based, 233 CBT or 90-91 IBT
* UCLES/ Cambridge CAE or computer-based 232
