Glamorgan’s postgraduate script-writing degree is a valuable opportunity to achieve a high-level academic qualification that combines vocational training with analytical skills. We will help you forge working relationships with professional writers and academics, and to explore potential vocational pathways in writing and/or academia. Tutors on this course are successful practitioners in the field of scriptwriting.
Possible Career Options
The skills acquired on this scriptwriting course lead either to a career as a writer in film, theatre, TV or radio, or to further academic study at PhD level.
The MA Scriptwriting course will include the following elements, though you can choose to specialise in writing for film, theatre, TV or radio:
* Writing a Short Drama Script
* Script Analysis
* Adaptation Treatment
* Major Project Treatment
* Full-length Script
You will be tutored through these modules, which culminate in a full-length script that showcases the skills you have gained during the course and can potentially act as an industry calling card.
How You Will Study
To fit the nature of creative scriptwriting, Glamorgan’s scriptwriting degree is delivered through distance learning with a series of residential weekends. You will be assigned a tutor with whom you will work closely over the two years of the course. Each month, and at other times when the progress of the writing demands, you will have a distance critique of your ongoing work. For this, your tutor will respond to your manuscript work and maintain a regular dialogue through post, e-mail or telephone.
There will be four, two-day residencies per year at the University (Friday and Saturday). Here, you will meet your tutor and fellow students, and attend workshops with tutors and guest writers. There will also be a longer residency in the summer lasting Friday to Monday, which may include seminar discussion, workshops and script-in-hand performances of your work. The MA Scriptwriting may also be studied through the medium of Welsh.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
Take testA minimum 2:2 Honours degree, but anyone with proven potential in scriptwriting will be considered. Evidence of scriptwriting potential is required, either a completed script or script in development, and an essay or piece of critical writing. You may also be invited for an interview.
