In a world dominated by visual imagery, artists need the right skills, reflexive approaches and attitudes of critical enquiry to work as effective professionals. On this postgraduate art degree you can either explore your own specialist area or develop your practice across a broader range of disciplines, challenging genre and context to realize an original body of work. You will develop the skills to evaluate, critique and implement methodologies in textual and visual analysis, gaining the ability to articulate sound arguments through words and imagery. Through professional studies you will explore entrepreneurial, marketing and management aspects of contemporary practice within a framework of social, economic and cultural responsibility

This art degree can be taken over two years part time or one yearfull time. Teaching is concentrated over two days but you will have access to personal dedicated studio space is available seven days a week. You will benefit from a programme of guest speakers, visits to galleries and museums and the opportunity to gain practical exhibiting and curatorial experience. The course is ideal for both recent graduates and experienced professionals.
Glamorgan’s MA Art Practice is a well established art degree that produces advanced practitioners who go on to develop challenging bodies of work at the national and international level. Graduates can also progress to careers in academia, arts administration, studio practice, artists in residence, community arts, public art or commissioned works, gallery administration and curatorship, and arts education, community and youth work.
In this MA Art Practice you will study the following modules.
Part One (Full-time) / Year One (Part-time)
* Art Practice 1: Develop your skills in your chosen discipline, challenging genre and context to develop an original body of work
* Critical Studies: Learn about systems of inquiry, how to understand and engage with objects and issues that affect your domain
* Professional Studies: Entrepreneurial, marketing and management aspects of contemporary practice within a framework of social, political, economic and cultural responsibility
Part Two (Full-time) / Year Two (Part-time)
* Art Practice 2: Build on previous work and develop new skills, working toward a public exhibition at an advanced level of practice
* Art History – Dissertation: A detailed project in an area of research relevant to your art practice, developing research methods appropriate for an art scholar
How You Will Study
The course is delivered using specialist facilities in our extensive studios. Teaching takes place over a day and a half a week for first year modules, but access to personal studio space is available seven days a week. Studio practice makes use of formal lectures, workshops, demonstrations and tutorials. You will also benefit from a programme of guest speakers, visits to galleries and museums, and the chance to gain practical exhibiting and curatorial experience.
Possible Career Options
This Masters art course produces advanced art practitioners who will go on to develop challenging bodies of work at a national and international level. Graduates can also progress to careers in academia, arts administration, studio practice, community arts, public art, gallery curatorship, youth projects and arts in health.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Take testA recognised degree in art, craft, design or related studio-based practice, 2:2 Honours or above; or a significant body of practical work and/or written work in the field of art, craft or design that demonstrates competencies equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree, 2:2 Honours or above. All applicants will be required to present a portfolio of their work and will be interviewed by teaching staff. The course welcomes international applicants and requires an English level of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
