If you are a busy professional who would like to undertake a substantial investigation into an area of current professional practice in education or training, this innovative, part-time programme is ideal. Comparable to the PhD in terms of scale and rigour, it will provide you with a thorough grounding in theory and practice of educational research, professional competence and transferable employment skills.
The EdD is being offered in collaboration with Roehampton University to provide in-depth knowledge in a range of areas, from pre-school learning to higher education and consulting, with nationally-recognised expertise in research methods training.
During the first two years, you will study modules on professional issues and methodology, developing an advanced understanding of reflective practice and research. You will focus on professional issues and methodologies relevant to researching professional practice in Education. You will choose optional modules from one of two pathways: learning and teaching or management and policy-making in education.
Over the remaining three years, you will undertake a research project that builds on the knowledge acquired from the core modules and relates to an area of professional interest. You will report your project in a thesis, portfolio, creative work or mixedmedia format of 45,000 words or equivalent.
Please note that this is an indicative list of modules and is not intended as a definitive list.
