Programme Description

Intellectual property law regulates the creation, use and exploitation of mental or creative work and encompasses branches such as copyright, patents, designs and trademarks. The LLM in Intellectual and Industrial Property Law will provide a distinctive, thought-provoking and practical course for those interested or already working in this area of the law. It will achieve this through the delivery of new modules not widely available in the UK, namely the module on Ethics and Exploitation of Intellectual Property Law and the module on Intellectual Property Litigation.

As this programme involves academic issues and issues of concern to the practitioner, the programme structure has been designed to cover all the principle areas of intellectual property law, namely patents, trademarks, copyright and designs, the specialist area of information technology law, which impacts on a number of intellectual property rights and associated principles of exploitation and ethics.

You will study the following modules:

* Patent Law
* Trademark Law
* Copyright and Design Law
* Information Technology Law
* Exploitation and Ethics
* Intellectual Property Litigation
* Dissertation

The course will be studied using a combination of lectures, workshops, tutorials and self-directed learning. The dissertation will require extensive research and innovative thinking by the student.

Every aspect of modern life involves intellectual property, whether it is a formal research and development facility, a modern university involved in research or simply a flash of inspiration. The course will enable students to make a career in these environments dealing with such issues. It will also be of benefit to lawyers wishing to specialise in such areas, and to academics.
