Magazine journalism occupies a rapidly expanding yet fiercely competitive professional arena. Our Magazine Journalism MA – recognised by the Periodical Training Council, the leading industry body – is designed to give the best possible start on the road to success.
Students will be taught through a combination of theoretical modules, delivered in lectures and seminars, and practical workshops focusing on hands-on journalistic activities, such as writing, interviewing, sub-editing and magazine production.
Course programme The Magazine Journalism MA covers news writing, sub-editing and design techniques, online journalism, research skills and media law.
Students will produce their own group magazines in both print and online form, as well as undertaking at least one placement on a real title. The course will also offer four bespoke modules – feature writing; design and production; journalism practices; and the business of magazines, which takes a practical and critical look at the nature and structure of the periodical sector.
Students graduate with an MA on successful completion of a 12,000–15,000 word dissertation or a related practical project.
