The History (Modern) MA course combines an advanced-level study of historical skills and knowledge with the opportunity to complete a sustained piece of research in modern history.
It is suitable both for those wishing to take a short but advanced-level qualification in history and those intending to proceed to a research degree in history.
What will you study?
You will take courses in historiography and documentary analysis, and learn how to apply these to your chosen subject area in modern history. You will engage with issues relating to archival research and information retrieval and receive research training at an advanced level. You may take classes in a relevant historical area or extend your subject expertise through using elective modules. We specialise in areas such as:
* Italian history;
* the history of fascism and the extreme right in modern Europe; and
* the history of healthcare.
The focal point of the MA will be your dissertation, which will enable you to focus on a particular aspect of modern history in depth.
