The MSc in Finance is offered by the Swiss Finance Institute andthe Faculty of Economics at the University of Lugano (Università della Svizzera italiana, USI) Switzerland. This full-time study programme comprises 120 ECTS spread over 4 semesters (usual duration 2 years) and is entirely offered in English.
Finance is the area of economics that studies investment decisions. These decisions are fundamental to the well-being of firms and individuals. The Master Programme in Finance aims to provide in-depth knowledge of professional practice in financial markets. A good knowledge of financial theory and quantitative methods is developed in the first part of the programme, whereas in the second part, these notions are applied to the analysis of financial practice, including new trends.
After a first term dedicated to the foundations of financial markets and the quantitative disciplines necessary to model them, financial instruments and institutional arrangements are discussed in detail. The economic forces that shape the design of financial products and market regulation are analysed. The processing of financial information and risk management are given particular attention.
The Master programme includes four semesters of lectures and laboratories and an internship.
The final thesis should show the candidate´s ability to integrate the covered material in the study of a business problem.
