Location of University of Limerick

This one calendar year full-time programme of study is intended for recent graduates and graduates with professional experience. The course is designed to attract able and ambitious candidates who wish to obtain a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of contemporary problems in the international environment.

The aim of the course is to prepare graduates to follow a career in the global market economy, international organisations, the United Nations, Diplomatic Service, the media and NGOs. The course also prepares students who intend to go on to further studies in international relations.

Contents

Semester 1

International Relations, International Organisation. Resources and Development, Research Methodology.

Semester 2

Students must choose three electives from the following modules:

International Economics; International History of the Twentieth Century; American Foreign Relations; External Relations of the European Union Strategic Studies; Public International; International Public Policy; Central and Eastern Europe Continuity and Change, Summer Dissertation.

IELTS

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Requirements

A primary degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. economics, history, geography, political science, sociology, European studies, law), with an overall result of first or second honours, or an approved qualification.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

As all international students are required to possess sufficient language skills to attend lectures and sit examinations at the University of Limerick, students should be competent to communicate through the medium of English prior to their arrival.

Students must have a minimum score of 550 (paper based) or 213(computer based) 80 (internet based) in TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or an IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score in the range of 6.5-7 and not less than 6.0 in any one component.
