Location of University of Limerick

The 1996 Forfas report "Shaping the Future, A Strategy for Enterprise Development in Ireland", the 1997 report "Survey of Product and Process Innovation in Irish Industry", together with the Technology Foresight Programme have all have emphasised the necessity for the provision of computer and software skills in graduates who have recently qualified.

In these analyses Irish manufacturing industry has identified a need for professionals with manufacturing expertise combined with advanced applied computing skills. The main aim of this course is to enable both graduates and manufacturing professionals to develop their capabilities in the design, development and implementation of advanced computer systems within modern manufacturing enterprises.

Objectives

* To introduce the students to the concept of Computer Aided Enterprise Performance Modelling technologies used in modern industry and enable them to complete a major dissertation in the manufacturing domain.
* Provide students with an understanding of the computing automated computer control systems and quantitative methodologies that underpin Computer Aided Enterprise Performance Modelling.

Graduates in this program take positions in industry in the following areas: Manufacturing Systems Manager, Logistics Manager, Production Manager, Operations Manager, Supplier Manager, Process Engineer, Quality Engineer, Production Engineer.


Contents

The Graduate Diploma and Masters programme contain the same taught modules.

Semester 1

Computer Aided Design and Modelling, Computer Aided Process Planning, Automation Technology 2, Programming Language 1, Thesis 1.

Semester 2

Discrete Event Simulation, Computer Control of Manufacturing Equipment 2, Operations Management in Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Programming Language 2.

Summer

Thesis 2, Thesis 3 and Thesis Conference Paper.

IELTS

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Requirements

An honours primary degree in engineering, science, or technology. Applicants who have substantial manufacturing experience and holding qualifications other than those stated will be considered on their merits. Students who satisfy the University's entrance requirements for transfer to a master's degree may be considered for admission to the master's programme.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

As all international students are required to possess sufficient language skills to attend lectures and sit examinations at the University of Limerick, students should be competent to communicate through the medium of English prior to their arrival. Students must have a minimum score of 550 (paper based) or 213(computer based) 80 (internet based) in TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or an IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score in the range of 6.5-7 and not less than 6.0 in any one component.
