University College Cork has evolved into being one of Ireland's leading third level institutions. The M.Soc.Sc. in Voluntary and Community Sector Management (CKE75) is a part-time Masters programme running over 2 years. It is aimed at people with prior or current experience of management or co-ordination of voluntary or community sector projects/organisations who wish to increase their knowledge and skills in management in the sector. The programme is comprised of 12 modules taught by seven different Departments/Schools in the University - the School of Applied Social Science and the Departments of Food, Business and Development, Management and Marketing, Accounting and Finance, Business Information Systems, Government, Economics and Law.
The programme will consist of 12 modules as follows:

MG6100 Leadership, Organisational Development and Change for the Third Sector
IS6012 Application of IT to the Third Sector
LW6103 Third Sector Legal Issues
SS6605 Research Project

Course Content
The programme will consist of 90 credits
Year 1
Compulsory Modules (40 credits):
* SS6601 Principles and Values of Youth and Community Work (10 credits)
* FE6602 Social Enterprises and Local Development (5 credits)
* FE6601 Co-operatives and the Third Sector (5 credits)
* EC6301 The Third Sector Economy (5 credits)
* SS6602 Applied Social Research in the Third Sector (5 credits)
* FE6606 Easter School (10 credits)
Part II - Year 2
Compulsory Modules (50 credits):
* MG6100 Leadership, Organisation and Change for the Third Sector (5 credits)
* IS6012 Application of IT to the Third Sector (5 credits)
* LW6103 Third Sector Legal Issues (5 credits)
* GV6112 The Third Sector and the State (5 credits)
* AC6601 Financial Management in the Third Sector (5 credits)
* SS6605 Research Project (25 credits)
In the second part of Year 2, students will develop a particular topic into a Research Project (20 credits). The research project is to be completed by the end of the second year.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

A candidate for the MSoc.Sc. in Third Sector Management must:
* Must have obtained a standard of at least a Second Class Honours in an approved primary degree.
* Normally have a minimum of two years recent and relevant work experience (e.g. practitioners/managers in youth work, play work, community work, community education, the community and small voluntary sectors, community renewal and enterprise, faith community workers, community health workers, equality workers, and environment workers).
* Satisfy a selection committee.
Applications will be considered from candidates without a primary degree provided that they have a vocational/professional qualification in a relevant subject area as may be deemed suitable by the Head of School AND the candidate has held, for a minimum of two years, a position of responsibility of relevance to the programme. Final acceptance is subject to approval by the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences, and the College of Business and Law, UCC.
English Language Requirements
All applicants whose first language is not English are required to sit either an IELTS or TOEFL test.

* College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences: IELTS 7.0
* College of Business and Law: Business IELTS 6.5 and Law IELTS 6.5
