The 'Environmental and Energy Management' Masters degree programme aims to prepare future private, public and NGO decision-makers to analyse issues and act in an environmentally pro-active way.
The degree course is intended for postgraduates with a clear affinity for management and/or technology as a result of their educational background or of their working experience, as well as for private, public and NGO decision-makers who wish to become environmental and energy specialists. During the first part of the programme (lecture-period) all students attend the theoretical part of the program. The main themes are: - Principles of governance, environmental and energy policy, environmental and energy planning, environmental and energy regulation, environmental impact assessment - Principles of environmental and energy management, corporate strategies, accounting, reviews, management systems, auditing and certification, integration with health, safety and quality management, resource-management, integral chain management, communication, management and advising skills - Principles of cleaner production, production technology, clean-up technology, clean technology, environmental technology, energy saving technology. Besides the lectures there will be training classes and workshops on for example communication, stress management and water technology.

This programme has a workload of 65 ECTS.
Energy Management:
During the research project period, students will carry out a research in the field of energy management. This can consist of (several aspects of) the development of an energy management system: assessment, developing prevention options; writing a manual of an energy management system, etc. It is also possible to choose another relevant topic in the field of energy management, for example, policies to promote energy management or the introduction of renewable energy technologies, potential for CDM in a region, etc.
Environmental Management:
During this final research project, students will carry out a research project in the field of environmental management / sustainable development, for example: environmental management, environmental law, environmental technology and so on. The topics can be very diverse, for example research into the development of an environmental management system, how to develop feasible prevention options (technical, organisational and /or legal issues), the extent of implementation of environmental policy, environmental management or Corporate Social Responsibility in a particular country or industry, comparison of environmental policies in various countries, exploring market strategies for new environmentally friendly product or technologies, the potential for environmentally benign technologies in a certain industry, decision support models for water savings in hotels, how to apply environmental management principles to cities or regions using participatory tools, etc.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Academic degree: Bachelor's degree in (related) natural, technical, environmental or social sciences. Other degrees when combined with relevant work experience.
Professional experience: Recommended.
Knowledge minimum: Basic understanding of chemistry (high school level). Good communication skills. Interest in environmental and energy issues.
