The MA in French (Creativity/Literature/Film) offers the opportunity for students to develop their reading skills in relation to French literary and dramatic texts, and to film. The course aims to promote creative forms of critical response to primary texts in French, and to explore the nature of different forms of creativity and the links between them
Learning OutcomesOn successful completion of this programme, students should be able to:
* Practice close reading of a range of texts in French from a range of genres including poetry, fiction, auto-fiction, drama and film;
* Demonstrate understanding of the nature of creativity as it relates to the practices of reading and writing in French;
* Demonstrate a capacity to engage creatively with different literary practices and genres;
* Engage with and apply critical methodologies developed by French and Francophone writers in response to literary, dramatic and cinematic texts;
* Produce creative responses to a range of texts in French;
* Synthesize critical and creative responses to a specific topic and a select corpus of texts in an extended piece of writing that makes an original contribution to the field of French literary and cultural studies.
Contents
Part I consists of taught modules to the value of 45 credits. Part II consists of a dissertation to the value of 45 credits.
Students take 90 credits as follows:
Part I
* FR6301 Lectio Divina: Close Reading of Literature and Film (15 credits)
* FR6901 Research Methods (10 credits)
plus
either 20 credits from the following (subject to availability):
* FR6303 Marguerite Duras: L'Écriture dans tous ses états (10 credits)
* FR6304 Unsettling Identities: Auto-biographical Spaces in Contemporary Writing (10 credits)
* FR6305 "Lorsque le theatre se fait femme": Women Writing for the Stage in France (10 credits)
or
10 credits from the following:
* FR6303 Marguerite Duras: L'Écriture dans tous ses états (10 credits)

Part II
* FR6399 Dissertation (45 credits)
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
