Translation Studies (French) – (M.A.)

The MA in Translation Studies is a one-year programme, which offers candidates training in the skills of the translation professions: translating documents, interpreting and terminology. The course will include analysis, documentation, revision skills for document translation; traductology theory and practice; socio-history of professional translation; terminology; introduction-level note-taking for consecutive interpreting; introduction-level simultaneous interpreting. Candidates will undertake supervised contact with potential employers and professional work experience The dissertation will involve research on an aspect of translation.

Learning OutcomesOn successful completion of this programme, students should be able to:
* Analyse documents for translation using the methodologies taught in the programme;
* Prepare linguistic documentation for translation French-English and English-French using the methodologies taught in the programme;
* Prepare and develop personal translation documentation using the methodologies taught in the programme;
* Draft and revise translations using methods of the translation professions;
* Prepare terminological material for input into databases;
* Take notes for consecutive interpretation;
* Interpret consecutively from English into French and from French into English;
* Interpret simultaneously from English into French and from French into English;
* Upskill both in consecutive and simultaneous interpretation using the practice and revision/correction methodologies taught in the programme;
* Work as a team and to a deadline to carry out a translation for a client.
