Location of University College Cork

The MA in Italian is a full-time programme running for one year from the date of first registration for the taught programme. The Masters consists of two streams: one cultural, the other language and translation based

Stream A. Modern and Contemporary Italian Culture: New Approaches (CKE48)
This taught Masters concentrates on modern and contemporary Italian literary and cinema studies. Students will study texts within the context of recent innovative critical theories, such as, for instance, cultural studies, gender studies, post-colonial studies etc. All classes will be conducted in Italian

Stream B. Italian Language and Translation Studies (CKE65)
This Taught Masters focuses on Italian Language and Translation and the Teaching of Italian as a second language. These areas of concentration reflect staff experience and expertise and provide students with a practical grounding on the teaching and learning of the language and on translation, all within a cultural context. All classes will be conducted in Italian.

* IT6203 Cinema e Letteratura (10 credits)

* IT6204 Prosatrici italiane moderne e contemporanee (10 credits)

* IT6205 Palazzeschi: poeta e prosatore (10 credits)

* IT6206 La città postmoderna nel cinema italiano degli anni 80 e 90 (10 credits)

* IT6207 Il cinema di nanni moretti (10 credits)

* IT6208 Il giallo (10 credits)

* IT6211 Il romanzo modernista (10 credits)

* IT6212 Riscrivere il Risorgimento (10 credits)

and

* LL6010 Research Methodologies in Modern Languages (5 credits)

Part II

Requirements

Applicants should normally have obtained at least Second-Class Honours Grade II (or equivalent) in Italian, with a minimum award of Second Class Honours Grade II (or equivalent) in Language. They may be required to present themselves for interview or further assessment before a final decision is made. Prospective candidates are required to contact the Postgraduate Co-ordinator, Department of Italian or the Head of Department informally before applying.

The Additional/Supplementary Statement Questions MUST also be completed during the online application process.

IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL equivalent
